BIG GREEN THEATER 2016 is underway!
Our annual Big Green Theater program is back for its 6th year, and we are thrilled to start reporting on our classroom sessions, which have been underway since January at two Bushwick public schools.
Here’s a handy outline from our program director, Jeremy Pickard, about what the BGT students have been working on:
1. Our groups of fifth-grade students are being introduced to “eco-experts”, who give interactive presentations of their research and expertise.
2. Jeremy and our team of teaching artists have been leading students in remembering and responding to the presentations, focusing on images, words or ideas that “popped”. Together, the group is honing in on one impossible environmental question for each presentation. These impossible questions will become the driving force of the eco-playwriting.
3. With the one-on-one guidance of adult teachers and volunteers, students are beginning to write rough drafts of plays inspired by the eco-experts’ presentations and rooted in the “impossible environmental question”.
SAVE THE DATE: The Big Green Theater performance festival will run April 22-24, 2016
