From the Classroom: A lesson in rewriting
The students at PS 123 and PS 75 are diving back into their plays after a relaxing February break. This week we chose our favorite plays to keep working on for the Big Green Theater Festival in April. Chantal Bilodeau, a playwright who is currently working on a cycle of eight plays about how climate change affects each of the countries in the Arctic Circle, came in and led a workshop on rewriting plays. We got to read two different drafts of a scene from her play Sila and see how she had changed the scene to make it more clear and exciting. Then we got to start the process of rewriting our plays by asking ourselves questions about what the characters want and the different tactics they use to get it.
