From the classroom: Sustainable Energy and peaceful thoughts
Despite the harsh winter weather, our BGT students have been keeping warm and busy in the classroom, learning from our amazing guest science experts and creating the eco-plays that will hit the stage this April at The Bushwick Starr. Recently, the classroom was visited by energy expert, Zara L’Hereux, who is a researcher in the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy within the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University. Through games and exercises, the BGT kids learned about sustainable energy and the ways we can all work towards reducing environmental footprints. We ended the day with a group discussion about a “what if” scenario in which NYC no longer had power– no lights, no heat, no TV or video games. One girl said, “Would that be so bad? Just sitting in the dirt… that sounds peaceful to me”.
