Field Report #1: An introduction to Big Green Theater 2014!
The Bushwick Starr and Superhero Clubhouse are thrilled to be commencing our 4th annual Big Green Theater program with PS 123! BGT is a beloved after school eco-playwriting program and green theater festival celebrating environmental education, sustainability in the arts, and community enrichment. Original plays written by Bushwick’s PS 123 5th grade students are performed by a professional ensemble using only green theater methods.
We are excited to announce that this year’s Big Green Theater program has expanded! Thanks to continued support from the New York City Council (thank you Diana Reyna and Steven Levin!), the DCA, the Puffin Foundation, and NEW funding from the Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) Program and Con Edison, we are now able to offer BGT after school sessions 3 days a week at PS 123, plus we’ve added theatrical design workshops at the Starr, AND a field trip to the Lamont-Dohery Earth Observatory! It’s going to be a great year for BGT!
The classroom sessions began January 7th, and we’re full steam ahead with our visiting eco-experts, guest artists, and the student playwrights beginning to create the environmentally themed plays that will be presented at The Bushwick Starr this Spring.
The 4th Annual Big Green Theater Festival performances will be on April 26th & 27th. As always, they will be free and open to the public! We hope you can join us for this very special community festival.
