Get Involved!

Here are some ways you can get involved with BGT:

  • We want to hear what you think!  As we develop BGT, it’s important for us to stay informed about the most pressing environmental issues in our community.  If you live or work in Bushwick, Brooklyn, please take a moment to fill out our online Environmental Survey at: www.surveymonkey.com
  • Volunteer!  There are many opportunities to help out with this program on a volunteer basis.  From working with kids in the writing workshop, to doing research about environmental stats, to helping paint stage sets or sewing costumes for the show- there’s something for everyone!  If you’re interested in getting involved, please email us at:  info@thebushwickstarr.org

Hi – My name is Elizabeth Damiano and I am a student at SUNY Purchase College located in Westchester NY. I am an Arts Management major and this semester I am taking Fundraising and Development. Our final project is untimatelly writing a grant proposal for a specific organization and/or a specific program. I have chosen the Bushwick Starr’s Big Green Theater project and I was hoping to get some information from you. Currently I am writing my Statement of Needs and would like to learn more about how you decided to start this project. You mention that you believe the neighborhood of Bushwick is “lacking in environmental awareness” and I’m wondering how you came up with that. I would really love to hear back, and would like to be in contact with someone who is fully involved in the project and wouldn’t mind taking some time to speak with me. Hope to hear back soon. Thank you for your time.

  2. Hello! I just posted on your about programs page but thought this might actually be a more appropriate place. I work for The Shadow Box Theatre (http://shadowboxtheatre.org/), another NYC theatre whose mission sounds similar to yours, although perhaps a little broader. We do shows not just about environmental stewardship but also around themes of diversity, street safety, and creating peaceful solutions.

But this spring we are putting on a show called Earth & Me, which does sound perfectly in line with your theatre. I am wondering if you would be interested in partnering with us in any way?

    • Hi there, and thanks for posting! Always good to know about other programs that are doing similar work. We are considering expanding our annual festival to include other green-minded companies. We’d be happy to keep you in mind for BGT 2014!

      All best,
      The Bushwick Starr
